About the destination

Ixtapa is a beach resort located in the municipality of Zihuatanejo de Azueta, in the Mexican State of Guerrero. It is a resort planned by the National Fund for tourism promotion in 1968 with the Special Fund granted by the Bank of Mexico for the creation of new tourist destinations on the coast of the country, its construction began in 1970 and started operations in 1974. It is currently one of the main tourist destinations of Mexico, receiving on average a little more than 2 million tourists annually.
